Girls Gone Green Jump for the Joy of SPACE
The Girls Gone Green visited Exit Art Gallery for the show CONSUME: an investigation of the world’s systems of food production, distribution, consumption and waste. The girls are jumping for the joy of the spaciousness of the gallery and not at the disturbing content in the show.

WHAT IS BEAUTY? WE WANT TO KNOW !
This morning we began the day at PS 20, in our “What is Beauty” class. The 3rd graders were full of responses to our question,
“What makes you beautiful both inside and out?”
Here are some of the answers: my heart makes me beautiful, my attitude, my kindness and how I care for the people I love; my hair, my eyes, and my lucky bracelet.
I AM BEAUTIFUL! GO GIRLS!!!!

Girls Club Photo Class Invades the Neighborhood
Last Friday, our girl photographers descended upon the area below Houston Street. It was FREEZING but they persisted in completing their assignment to document the neighborbood’s Christmas Spirit or should I say SHOPPING SPIRIT! The stores and restaurants (there are tons of them), were decorated in their Christmas finery hoping to entice us inside and separate us from our cash. We were too busy photographing to shop. We had all seen “What Would Jesus Buy” and he doesn’t buy anything!!
Enjoy the photos of our adventure.

We are posting in Girlville Class RIGHT NOW!!!
Right now, the girls are writing a film review of the Girls Club produced movie, Rebel.
I want to blog about our visit to the New Museum. The Museum Club, which meets monthly, went to the opening of the NEW MUSEUM, on the Bowery. I did not understand the reasoning behind the Unmonumental Sculpture Exhibit. The building seemed to be the main show. It was monumental, too much so, out of scale with the neighboring buildings. I would like to know what others thought of this newest museum in New York City, right in our neighborhood.

Goodbye MySpace!! The Girlville Bloging Class Has Begun!
On Tuesday, we began a 6 week class called “Girlville”, the official blog of the Girls Club. Renée, Hilary and Lou, (that’s me) lead the class. Photography is also part of the program. I was surprised to learn that many of the Girls Club staff gets their information from blogs and have their own blogs. As a soon to be 60 year old teacher/photographer/artist, who has relied on the photograph to do the talking, this new world of blogs is of interest to me. In the class, the girls take photographs and write. Read what they have to say and make a comment. I’m posting portraits of the girls at work bloging.
PS If I am not at the Girls Club, you’ll find me in Coney Island. Anybody out there interested in this unique place?

2007 Citizens Media Summit, Washington D.C.
On Monday, October 1st, Amber, Renee and I took a train to Washington D.C. for a Citizens Media Summit. It was a day long workshop on citizen journalism held at the Marriott Hotel. We met people who have started community news websites whose content is entirely citizen produced. At Girlville, we depend on your posts and we hope that comments will be generated. We want to be an actively posting community.
This conference is an example of the many opportunities that the Girls Club provides to motivated members. Our next trip is to San Rafael, California for the Bioneers Environmental Conference. Tune in for the daily posting from California.
Enjoy photos from our trip. We stayed in a terrific apartment!!

National Park(ing) Day
National Parking Day was a huge success here in New York City. The Girls Club was one of the many organizations that participated in liberating parking spaces to create green areas for city residents to enjoy!! Girls, did you have fun drinking smoothies made with girl run bicycle power and hanging out in parking spaces? Girlville would like your comments!
Also, check out Street Films, we’re featured on that too!
