Where am I?
I’m at the Bioneers Conference. Well, I’m not here alone. I get to share this awesome trip with 4 other people. Fatima, Gissaury, Isabel, Miriam, and I are attending an environmental conference in San Rafael, California. It’s pretty exciting! We get to interact with people who are working to save our planet and make life safer and healthier. They are so awesome! There are even youth here that are getting in on the action. You are never too old, or young, to save the World.
There are so many different types of Activism going on here too. One of the types is called “Digital Storytelling.” Isabel and I are part of this session. We have the duty to get an interview with one or two of the presenters and then create a one minute video about what they do and why it is important. And we have to do this all in one day! Talk about Quicktime. LoL.

OPEN MIC WAS A SUCCESS!!
I have to say, I was and still am impressed by the talent that lives in Girls Club. The girls that read their work or their exercise pieces were PHENOMENAL! And not to discredit our fearless and EXREMELY talented leader Miss Ca!tlin Meissner who is a performance poet herself, who gave us some very powerful tools to remember and even performed one of her own pieces. Oh man, this was such a good thing! Being a poet myself, it felt refreshing to be amongst those who never considered their selves a poet, who later found out that they were indeed. For those of you who missed it, you missed a fabulous night. Stay posted, there might be another one. Until then, keep your pens to the paper! =]

Just a thought…
We have A LOT of talent in Girls Club. So, there was an idea of a Friday Poetry Slam or Reading. Only, its the poetry of Girls Club members or their friends. Who knows, it might turn into a Saturday Performance Series. Its just a thought…think about it.
Its a empty thought bubble…why don’t you fill it?

GIRLS NITE OUT: Fly and her Zines
Have you ever heard of a “zine’? Well, its a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter. In other words, its a magazine or a booklet made by a regular person like you or me. They are made to express the interest someone has in a certain thing. For example, you could make a zine about your favorite color, your favorite band or singer, you could even make a zine about the Girls Club. Basically, if you want to write about it, you can make a zine out of it.
At Girls Nite Out on Febraury 17th, we had the honor and privilege of having Fly come by and tell us about her zines. She has been making them for years. She started when she was in school. One of her Zines, PEOPleS, was actually published by Soft Skull Press. You might have seen it in Girls Club.
If you would like to know more about Fly, you can visit her webpage or you can listen to her Podcast on Girls On Air!
To learn more about Zines you can visit, The Book Of Zines.

Photoshoot From My Foot
The WayMarkr Digital Diaries is a class in which girls are giving regular cellular phones with cameras that has a program on it called WayMarkr. This program allows the girls to take pictures without having to be mindful of it or having to always press a button to capture a picture. It also makes it possible for girls to be aware of what it happening around them that they don’t normally notice. Each girl had to make a pouch to hold their camera and where thy are going to place their phone. I decided to place my phone on my shoe. So I had to alter a pouch so that it can be laced to my sneaker. The WDD class took a trip to see The Earth Room and The Broken Kilometer both by Walter De Maria. The photos I’ve chosen are from an unusual angle. I’ve also chose photos that show a time lapse.

These picture were taking in front of the door that lead us to The Earth Room display. I started by facing Mike 2 and i turned slightly away. I then turned back towards Mike 2 and then I turned all the way around and faced Mike 1.
These are pictures of The Broken Kilometer display.

And now to watch the day go by…

This is the picture of the time lapse. It shows that we started in the daytime and ended at night. Its pretty cool that you can actually see time changing.
