INTERVIEW WITH DICK ZIGUN

WHAT DOES CONEY ISLAND MEAN TO YOU?

It's 2008. Development and gentrification are coming but how will these plans affect the "real" Coney island? The Girls Club goes to Dick Zigun, the founder of Coney Island USA in 1980 and Sideshows by the Seashore, for his opinion. Known as the Mayor of Coney Island, Dick is a scholar with an MFA from the Yale School of Drama and an expert on Coney Island and American Popular Culture. He organized the first Mermaid Parade in 1983 and it has continued to grow each year. Dick Zigun proclaims to the world, "Coney Island is not dead!"
