PHILOMENA MARANO

WHAT DOES CONEY ISLAND MEAN TO YOU?

Philomena Marano is an artist who grew up in Brooklyn, spending endless summers at Coney Island. Her shock at the general decline of the area motivated Philomena, along with artist Richard Eagan, to co-found the Coney Island Hysterical Society which played an integral role in the "Artists' Resnaissance of the 1980's". Philomena was interviewed at the Coney Island History Project. Charles Denson, the founder, joins the interview at the end. We also wanted her views on the development plans for Coney Island.
